The India Gate is a Heritage Site located in New Delhi, India. The gate was built as part of the Colombo Plan of British administrators in the late 19th century. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and constructed between 1922 and 1931. The gate is made up of three parts: the Gateway (east), the Arch (south), and the Tower (west). The Gateway is a two-story structure with 34 Corinthian columns and a porch on each side. The Arch is a three-story structure with an entablature and pediment. The Tower is a two-story structure with a conical roof.
Humayun’s Tomb
Humayun’s Tomb is a symbol of the Mughal Empire and is located in the Old City of Delhi. The tomb was built by Humayun in 1555, in memory of his beloved wife Hamida Banu Begum. Humayun was assassinated in 1556 and the tomb was completed by his son Akbar. The monument is a Heritage Site.
Tourists can visit the tomb from Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm, or from Saturday 10:00am to 4:00pm. Admission is free for all visitors. On Fridays, tourists can also visit the gardens surrounding the tomb.
The tomb is made of red sandstone and marble and has a dome measuring 44 metres in diameter and 20 metres high. The interior of the tomb contains a mausoleum, an assembly hall, a dais, and three chambers. There are paintings on the walls and ceilings depicting scenes from the life of Humayun
